In her third book of the Alaskan Courage series, Dani Pettrey takes readers on a luxury cruise with the McKenna family’s Last Frontier Adventures Company leading the ship’s excursions. Kayaking, rock-climbing and other activities are their specialty, so they are perfect for the job.
Last seen in Book Two, Shattered, freelance journalist Darcy St. James is also on board the cruise ship. Darcy’s assignment is to write a series of articles to publicize the excursions for the cruise line. Darcy and Gage McKenna have a history of butting heads, despite their mutual attraction, so the close quarters of the ship provide plenty of time for interaction.
In addition to covering the adventure sports, Darcy has a secret agenda. Her friend, uncover journalist Abby Walsh, has asked for her help investigating some suspicious and dangerous activities on the ship. Before the two can meet to discuss plans, Abby vanishes, having gone overboard during the night. Concerned, but undaunted, Darcy plunges into her investigation, aided by a reluctant Gage.
The story is well crafted and moves quickly, with lots of surprises. There are plenty of suspects, twists and turns to keep readers guessing. Darcy can’t be certain who may be involved and has to choose who to trust. The McKenna family pitches in with their usual enthusiasm, so Darcy is not alone in her quest until…well, read the book to find out. It’s a great plot and a well-told story. Some developments are predictable, but others are startling.
I was given a free copy of this book for the purpose of review. I highly recommend it for adult and teenage readers.
